Completed in the winter/spring of 2010, this body of work consists of 88 pieces that are 8″ x 8″ square. Homeostasis is defined as the ability or tendency of an organism or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes. The images are taken from a vintage high school biology textbook. Diagrams are magnified and taken from their original context and lithographed onto washes of acrylic paint that resemble mold, rust, decay, oxidization, using colours of putrefaction. This work highlights the tension that exists between the man-made world of technology, consumer products and waste and the natural world.
