January, 2018- After a long period of web-dormancy, the website has been updated and is up and running. Stay tuned for more content and info about what I’ve been doing recently.

December, 2015- Launch of White’s Wands, a family business creating hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind wooden magic wands for wizards and witches of all ages.

September, 2015- Steven’s sculptures are featured in Season 2 of “The Strain” by Guillermo Del Toro.

July, 2015- work begins on a new project entitled “Sculptures based on blueprints found in someone’s wall”. Stay tuned for more details.

September, 2014- Steven’s sculptures are featured in a new TV series entitled The Strain, by producer/director/writer Guillermo Del Toro on the FX network. The series has been renewed for a second season after being rated the most popular new series of 2014. The sculptures were featured in episode 9, entitled “The Disappeared”, in the apartment of a female character named Dutch Velders. March, 2014- Two-person exhibition with Julia White entitled Roots Entwined at the Durham Art Gallery. Show runs from March 22 to May 11. Opening reception, Saturday March 29, 2-4pm. View invite, view press release.

February, 2014- A big month! Received a mid-career artist grant from the Ontario Arts Council. Six large sculptures are rented by film production company Strain Can Productions for an upcoming vampire TV show entitled The Strain, produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Light sculptures adorn the stage at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound for a concert by The Sadies, put on by the Mudtown Music Festival.  

October 2013- Steven is the Artist In Residence at the Hilary Weston Writer’s Trust Award ceremony, held at the Art Gallery of Ontario. He created a piece of art during the ceremony that responded to and encapsulated all 5 of the nominated books. The awards ceremony was hosted by CBC Radio’s Shelagh Rogers. October 2013- The Combine Project begins at the Hamilton Museum Of Steam and Technology. Opening Reception is Friday, October 4th, 12-4pm. The show runs until June 20th, 2014. Click here for photos of the exhibition.

August 2013- Steven is commissioned to produce light sculptures for a stage at the Mudtown Music Festival.

July 2013- Tom Thomson Art Gallery invites Steven to participate in the Canadian Spirit Festival by commissioning him to create an outdoor sculpture. The piece, entitled Kennedy Sound Machine is an interactive, kinetic sound sculpture that pays homage to the historic Owen Sound company “Kennedy & Sons Inc.” which produced ship propellers. On view at the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum.

April 2013- Steven receives two Exhibition Assistance grants from the Ontario Arts Council. Thanks!!

March 2013- The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts in Collingwood, Ontario presents a solo exhibition of interactive sound sculptures and lithography-based paintings.

September 29, 2012- Piano Pendulum is included in Dada Reboot, curated by Thom Sokoloski, held at the Distillery District in Toronto, ON for Nuit Blanche. Asher Minden-Webb created a stunning video of the piece. Much thanks to him! To view his video, click here.

September 29, 2012- The Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, ON presents a sculpture entitled “The Sun Turns Itself Inside Out” as part of Nuit Blanche.

August 3, 4, 5, 2012- “Piano Pendulum”, a kinetic sound sculpture is included in the Electric Eclectics festival of music and sound art at the Funny Farm in Meaford, Ontario.

July 6, 7, 8, 2012- Several Combine Project sculptures are included ART NOW, held during the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Thanks to Maria H. Kochan for the  photo of my installation. ART NOW is a response project to the intersection of public, private spaces and commercial/non-commercial art practice.

June 2012- Sculpture “Brian’s Arc” is installed at The Drake Hotel‘s new location in Wellington, Prince Edward County, Ontario.

April 2012- Included in a group show at the Family Buisiness Gallery in Chelsea, New York City. The show, “It’s A Small, Small World” was curated by Hennessy Youngman. Click here for a video/review of the show.

March 2012- Included in a group show entitled “Lost and Found” at the Blue Mountian Foundation For the Arts in Collingwood, ON. The opening reception is March 17, 3-5 pm. The show runs from March 1 -30.

March 2012- A piece is purchased by the Timeraiser Foundation and included in their Toronto event on March 24. Patrons bid on the piece in an auction format and the winner pays in volunteer hours at a local non-profit. To view the piece, click here.

Jan 2012- Received a Mid-Career Artist Grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

Fall 2011- A large, 3′ x 9′ mixed-media piece is commissioned by Agribank, an agricultural finance company in St. Paul, MN, USA. The piece is composed of reclaimed steel panels from an old combine harvester with many lithographed images of Agribank’s primary commodities. To view the piece, click here.

July 2011- The Combine Project is shown at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery.  The show runs from July 29 until September 11, 2011 and the opening reception is Friday July 29th at 7pm.  To view evite, click here.

May 2011- Piano Pendulum is installed at Fieldwork, an outdoor sculpture venue located between Kingston and Ottawa in Ontario. The piece is a kinetic sound sculpture, driven by wind.  To view a video of the piece, click here.

November 12, 2010-  The Combine Project is reviewed in The Record by Robert Reid.

November 11, 2010- Laurier University newspaper “the Cord” reviews The Combine Project.  To read the review, click here.

October 27, 2010- The Combine Project opens at the Robert Langen Art Gallery at Wilfrid Laurier University.  The show runs until December 4, 2010.  To view invite, click here.

October 18, 2010- Steven White receives an Owen Sound Cultural Award for Visual Art.  This award came with a beautifully hand-crafted wooden box.

August 2010- The Combine Project is reviewed in The Utne Reader.  The article “The Art and Sound of Obsolescence” was written by Will Wlizlo.

August 2010- Steven White is included in a group show entitled All In The Family at the Islip Art Museum in Islip, NY, USA.

July 15, 2010-  Musicworks Magazine releases their summer issue containing an article entitled “Visions Of Sound” on The Combine Project, by Steven White.  To view the article, click here for page 1. click here for page 2.

July 01, 2010- Electric Eclectics Music Festival presents an exhibition of interactive sound sculptures by Steven White at the Meaford Museum in Meaford, ON .  The show runs until August 15th.

April 21, 2010-  The Robert Langen Gallery at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON has scheduled to present the Combine Project in October, 2010.

April 15, 2010-  Steven White receives a significant Project Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

April, 2010-  Musicworks Magazine does a feature on the Combine Project for their summer issue.

April 2010-  Electric Eclectics experimental/ sound art festival includes works by Steven White for their summer 2010 program.   Two large sound sculptures will be on view at the Meaford Museum from mid-July until the end of August.

March 28, 2010-  Steven White receives an Emerging Artist Grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

February to March 2010-  Steven White is part of Greenbelt: Artists Survey, a group exhibition that originated at Gallery 1313 in Toronto and traveled to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and galleries in Ajax, Hamilton and St. Catherines.
